Montmorency Falls Vista Point

Montmorency Falls, located in Montmorency Falls Park near Quebec City, Canada, is a stunning natural attraction that draws people like you and me from all around the world.

When I visit a new waterfall, I love to get a height comparison in my mind to better appreciate its amazing features.

So, let's compare Montmorency Falls to a classic, (and yes, another one of my favorites!) Niagara Falls.

At 272 feet (83 meters) tall, Montmorency Falls is significantly taller than Niagara Falls' Horseshoe Falls, which stands at 188 feet (57 meters). In terms of water volume though, Niagara Falls far surpasses Montmorency Falls.

However, I have to tell you that Montmorency Falls is absolutely amazing—hence, why I'm now putting this waterfall on my favorites list!

Facts About the Falls

It's a waterfall that is known for its dramatic height and scenic beauty. The park offers a variety of ways in which you can experience the walls.

These options include a suspension bridge that spans the crest of the falls, a scenic cable car ride ascending from the base to the top, and a climb of nearly 500 steps to reach the top lookout platform.

You can even experience the falls by zipline! What an incredible way to get up close and personal with the natural wonder.

The cable car ride is one of the easier options to view the falls, but you may have a little bit of a wait as the gondolas only accommodate about 40 passengers at a time.

I love that the falls has this option as it makes the beautiful views more accessible to anyone who prefers not to walk the stairs. This way, no one misses out!

The falls are located only about 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) northeast of Old Quebec, making it an easy short drive from the city.

Named by Samuel de Champlain in honor of Charles de Montmorency, the Duke of Damville and Admiral of France, the falls have a rich history. They have been the site of historical events, including military encounters during the British Conquest of New France in the 18th century.

Take the Stairs to Get the Best Views

To reach the different platforms at Montmorency Falls, you can take the scenic stairway that climbs alongside the falls. You will have a view of the falls the entire way up.

This stairway consists of 487 steps and offers several resting points along the way, providing perfect spots for taking photos and admiring the stunning views.

I chose to take the steps, and despite the effort, it was absolutely worth it. Plus, if you're short on time, you can get to the top pretty quickly!

Each resting point offers a unique perspective of the falls and the surrounding landscape, making the climb both manageable and enjoyable. Trust me, you will definitely want to take a rest at each platform.

The breathtaking views and the opportunity to capture incredible photos made the journey to the top an unforgettable experience.

Ziplining Over Montmorency Falls

You can purchase tickets for the zipline at the Montmorency Falls Park ticket office or online through their website.

It is highly recommended to purchase tickets in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons. Doing so ensures availability and you avoid the long wait times.

Allow approximately 1-2 hours for the entire ziplining experience. This includes time for check-in, getting harnessed, receiving safety instructions, and the zipline ride itself.

The zipline ride across the falls takes about 1 minute, but preparation and waiting times can vary.

Getting to the Zipline Platform

To reach the zipline platform, you'll first need to get to the top of Montmorency Falls. There are a few options for this:

1. Cable Car: Take the cable car from the bottom of the falls to the top. This is a scenic and convenient option.

2. Stairs: For those who are more adventurous and physically fit, there is a set of stairs (487 steps) that you can climb to reach the top.

3. Parking: If you prefer to drive, there is parking available at the top of the falls.

Once at the top, follow the signs to the zipline platform. The staff will be there to assist you with getting your harness and safety gear before you ride across the falls.

Although I did not have enough time to experience the zipline over Montmorency Falls during my visit, I'm convinced it just means that I have the perfect excuse to return.

I'm already looking forward to another adventure back to this beautiful location!
